My Pixie Cut- 27 Layer Piece Quick Weave Wig

I have been looking for a short protective style to rock this summer for quite some time. Needless to say I was ecstatic when I found this bomb 27 Layer do by Sasha Dahl (Dollie Couture on YouTube).

After watching the video I went out and bought my supplies at my nearest Beauty Supply Store (BSS). I got the same MilkyWay weave that she had (but in the colour 1b instead of 1) as well as normal black hair glue and two stocking caps.

I already had a shower cap at home to use, but to my surprise the weave came with a stocking cap and shower cap inside of the packaging!WOOP WOOP!

So I ended up using the free MilkyWay stocking cap for the weaving, but their shower cap was too small (big head lol) leaving me no choice but to use my own.

FYI-The reason a shower cap is placed under the stocking while gluing on the tracks is to provide a barrier between the glue and your hair. Many people like for the hair to be glued either directly to their head (normally laying the hair flat with gel or holding spray) or glued with a  stocking to keep the style in place.

However, I wanted to make the style into a wig so that I could remove it whenever I pleased and prevent the glue from damaging my hair.

After fighting to get my hair braided down flat enough to appear non existent, I followed the same procedure as she did for the most part. I began with the 2" pieces in the back and worked my way up with the 1" until I reached the horseshoe shape in the upper portion of my head. Then I used  the 2" pieces again to bring the top together until I had just a strip into the crown of my head that was about 3" wide and about 4 1/2" long (from the front of my head to wear I would place the closure).

I then began to fill that space by flip-flopping the placement of the 3" tracks as Sasha described in her video. This opposite placement is what creates the funky flips and Mohawk effect. To get this effect follow these steps:

  1. Place  your track it in the normal downward direction that the hair would curl

  2. Take the next track and place it so that the curl is now facing the opposite direction, which is up

  3. KEEP GOING! I say this because at first it looks a hot crazy mess, but I assure you, it will get MUCH better

  4. Flip more tracks if you want a fuller look like mine and less if you want a sleeker look like hers

I forgot the hair came with a closure so I made my own, which I preferred because of the height and body my closure had. When I was finished this is what it looked like.

But I wanted MORE! lol It was looking a bit empty in the front to me, so I flipped the wig inside out and flip-flopped pieces of the hair in the front of the wig, basically between my brow area. And after some clipping and other minor adjustments this was the final product!

I really loved this style once I got it as full and funky as I wanted it. It took a great deal of courage for me to wear it out of the house, because I have never worn hair this short out before.

I got SO many compliments on it and a few requests to do this style of clients which is always awesome lol. I ended up taking it off after wearing it for a 5 day vacation in Atlanta.

And let me tell you, when ATL girls give you props on your hair, yo ish is LAID! I had to say a huge thank you to Sasha on instagram for this one, she even said she liked mine better than hers which was such an honour! I LOVED this look so much I named her "Foxy" and will definitely be wearing her again as well as trying different 27layer styles.

So what did you think? Tell me your thoughts or ask questions her or on Facebook. Don't forget to follow on Instagram for more photos and constant updates on what I'm doing with my hair.
